Kendra Bragg is a composer and songwriter from the Piedmont area of North Carolina. She grew up surrounded by influences as far apart as Liszt and Led Zeppelin, and it shows in her music. She mixes folk, rock, and pop influences with classical techniques and sensibilities to create a unique body of work.

She has received numerous honors for her composition and her research in music psychology, including the Kenneth L. Wilmot, Sr. Scholarship, the Strayer-Bendazzi Award for Art, Music, and Dance Papers, and the Alfred and Shirley Wampler-Caudill Award.

As a songwriter, Bragg has drawn comparisons to Ingrid Michaelson, Jon Foreman, and Natalie Merchant, and her compositional style has broad appeal, with influences ranging from Hildegard von Bingen to Hiroyuki Sawano.

She was a winner in the Songwriter Session LIVE! Contest and performed at Summer NAMM for GRAMMY nominated songwriter Clay Mills, and Laura Whitmore (editor, Acoustic Nation Magazine). That same year, she also placed as a runner-up in Carnegie Hall's Songwriting Exchange.

In 2015 and 2016, Nashville Songwriters Association International listed her as "One to Watch," and she received commendations from jazz singer/songwriter Benita Hill. She is currently playing as one-half of the duo The Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs

Her composition Three Pieces for Piano was recorded by pianist Yael Manor in March of 2016.

She made her radio debut and released her first EP, Carolina Heart, in April.

She has performed across the Southeast, including venues and festivals such as Music City Center in Nashville, Charlotte Music Festival, and Triad Music Festival. Her compositions have been performed by soloists such as Kate Oliphant (guitar), and several ensembles, including UNCSA's nu Ensemble.

Ms. Bragg is active in her local community and seeks to bring meaningful musical experiences to as many people as possible. She serves as an ArtistCorps (an AmeriCorps program) member, instructing children in financially-improving communities in guitar and general music.

Ms. Bragg has studied composition with Sarah Zipperer Gaskins and Kenneth Frazelle, and is currently honing her craft as a graduate composition student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She will be premiering several chamber and solo works throughout 2016, and will self-publish a collection of guitar works in 2017. She lives in the Piedmont area of North Carolina with her husband, Zack, and their dogs, Joni and Moon Moon.
